A Review: Trying TruLife’s Collagen Supplement Drinks

It’s a well-known fact that as we age, our bodies produce less collagen. Because collagen makes up one-third of the protein in the human body, having less collagen production makes our skin lose its strength and elasticity the older we get—but all is not lost! Collagen production can be stimulated in a lot of ways, one being the regular intake of collagen supplements. Luckily for me, TruLife has just the stuff right here on Calyxta!

For its convenience, long-term benefits, and my own personal need to keep my hair and skin in its 20s for as long as possible, I had to get my hands on it! Read on to see the variants you can try, how it performed, and if I would buy it again.

THE VARIANTS

Made with luxurious pearl extracts, marine collagen peptides, and vitamin C, this supplement is perfect for those looking to repair and protect skin that has been damaged by the sun and other environmental stressors. It helps lighten dark spots, brighten the complexion, and resist further damage to get the skin functioning regularly.

If you’re experiencing brittleness in your hair and have noticed your skin has become less firm, this drink is for you. With micro marine collagen peptides, pure manuka honey, cynatine, and other vitamins, this supplement can help strengthen your skin, prevent acne caused by environmental aggressors, retain hair strength, and even boost your energy!

This supplement drink has one of the highest collagen content in the market! Because of this, it helps to slow the aging process, repairs the skin structure, and locks in moisture for firmer, more youthful skin!

THE PERFORMANCE

For this review, I was only able to try the TruLife Manuka Max. I’ve been having some trouble with acne recently, so its function as a preventive measure piqued my interest. Having curly hair can be a nightmare as well, so the added benefits of hair strength would be an interesting aspect to look out for.

Taste-wise, I’d liken it to those vitamin syrups that you’d drink as a kid. True to its name, it has a sweetened honey taste, making it very easy to drink once you get used to the texture. It’s not exactly as thick as syrup, but it’s not as watery as juice either. If you’re not used to drinking anything more viscous than water, then it does take more time to get used to. It’s only 50ML per bottle, so if the flavor isn’t your cup of tea, it’s easy to just tilt your head back and knock it down in one go if you want to. Haha!

Typically, these supplements are meant to be taken daily for around 7 to 10 days to have visible effects. Having only brought home 5 bottles, I had low expectations. I’ve seen reviews online claiming to have seen effects immediately the morning after, and true to those claims, I noticed a very slight (emphasis on SLIGHT) difference. My acne remained the same and my scarring was untouched, but I did seem to have a little more life in my complexion—though I wouldn’t discount the possibility of it being placebo. As for my hair, I hadn’t noticed a difference in appearance or texture at all. What I didn’t expect was the extra energy I had in the morning, since I always have the hardest time getting out of bed.

However, after finishing the 5 bottles I took home, I was a little underwhelmed. My skin didn’t look very different from when I started, but that was to be expected; for these types of beauty products, it needs a few weeks of continuous use to see more obvious results.

THE VERDICT

To be honest, I would want to try this again—as well as the other variants–once I have the budget for them. Because a week’s worth of collagen drinks would equate to P1,400, you do need to have the money set aside specifically for this purpose if you want to sustain the effects for a longer period. I didn’t experience any adverse effects throughout the five days of use and was able to see a very small effect, so I’m hopeful that with longer use, I’d be able to see a bigger difference!
