Calyxta’s November Cover Girls and Where Are They Now

Calyxta’s November cover girls are practically bursting at the (fashionable) seams with talent and charisma. Though each of them is vastly unique from the other in many ways, they all share the common goal of pursuing their passions with fire and determination:

2015 – Mia Arcenas

Beauty and brains is the deadly combo Mia has been wielding for years. After graduating from L.A.’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising back in 2010, Mia set out to fuel her passion for fashion further, by starting her very own clothing line. Her self-named brand features unique resort wear and accessories that are all handmade right here in the Philippines and even uses top quality, local materials. Just two years after being featured as Calyxta’s 2015 November cover girl, she tied the knot with Executive Vice President of Jewelmer Joaillerie, Jacques Christophe, in the picturesque Brittany region of France. It was an intimate and also star-studded event, with Mia wearing her own design down the aisle. Ooh la la!

A quick glance at Mia’s personal Instagram shows she’s rarely without a bold, bright lip color and her signature, casual yet chic, beachy-like waves. 2016 – Jerika Ejercito

Campaigning for good is what’s been keeping Jerika busy these days, specifically striving for better mental health care for all Filipinos. Just last month, she successfully headed the first ever solidarity walk for mental health with dozens of others. When she’s not out and about, she’s taking care of her adorable, twin boys, Daniel and Michael, who she gave birth to just a year after marrying Spanish triathlete, Miguel Aguilar Garcia. Of course, her other son with former partner Bernard Palanca, Isaiah, is also still lovingly doted upon by his mother. While many women start to feel insecure about their bodies post-childbirth, the gorgeous mother of three has been outspoken about loving it instead. One Instagram picture’s caption even reads, “…this body deserves to be loved and accepted by none other than myself.” Preach, girl!

2017 – Valerie Chua

Last year’s Calyxta November cover girl seems to reflect the very art she creates. She’s beautiful, whimsical, and wonderfully layered. A self-taught, visual artist who only started painting when she was 20, Valerie has been continuing to hone her talent ever since her feature. With her works displayed in galleries located in Manila, Hong Kong, and New York, just to name a few, she’s graciously also shared her talent by hosting art workshops and private classes. Just how sought after is she? Well, let’s just say one of her clients include the brand Christian Louboutin. Earlier this year, she collaborated with IFEX (International Fine Paper Exchange) to create “Bloom,” a pre-illustrated book featuring 10 of her original drawings for both budding and experienced artists to fill in without having to worry about creating illustrations of their own.

As an artist, Valerie is no stranger to experimenting with color.
