Product Review: Girlactik Blush in Florence

Girlactik is a brand that I am coming across for the very first time, thanks to Calyxta.com. Judging by its name, I assumed it was a brand that catered to the younger set. But upon trying out their Star Blush, I was impressed. And in no way felt like it was a blush only the millennials could use. The blush itself is a powder type of product—this always scores plus points in my book because powder types are the easiest to use, and stay on forever. Cream types are ridiculously difficult to blend in plus they tend to run or fade away by midday. Gel types on the other hand, tend to stain skin, and once you’ve made a mistake in application, gel types are notoriously difficult to erase.

This particular shade, Florence, is something between pink and peach although I’d say it leans more on the pinkish tone. I like this hue because it isn’t your typical Barbie-doll pink that looks unnatural. It’s the kind of pink that mimics the light flush you get after you’ve exercised or been out in the sun for a couple of minutes.

To apply, simply grab an angled brush and apply directly on the apples of your cheeks, making sure not to apply too much all at once. Remember, it’s better to build the color rather than end up with too much pigment that you’ll have to remove with a sponge. For daytime, I make it a point to apply just the right amount because blush can appear much harsher under the broad daylight. For evenings out, I prefer to apply blush with a bit of a heavier hand, and also try to incorporate a bit of bronzer into my routine since it helps the jawline and cheekbones better definition.
