The Proper Way of Brushing Your Teeth

We all brush our teeth everyday, but mindlessly moving the brush around your mouth vigorously for a few minutes doesn’t mean you’re getting your teeth clean the right way. Yes, even when it comes to the basics of teeth care, there’s always a better way. After all, proper brushing means avoiding tooth decay, gingivitis, and a whole lot more.

Many of us don’t floss as often as we should. Some of us not at all. Before you even pick up your tooth brush, floss away to get into those areas that toothbrushes can’t. It loosens up any bits of food in between the tight spaces that you’ll likely miss with just brushing.

Once you’ve got your toothbrush loaded up with toothpaste, start with your back teeth (upper molars) and brush using a clockwise motion. Try to stick with a 45 degree angle while you’re doing this. Do this for 20-30 seconds, then roll the brush head away from your gum line to sweep away any food or plaque. Work towards the front of your mouth still using a clockwise motion, ending at the lower molars on the other side. Repeat for the inside surfaces of both your upper and lower molars, too. Next, brush the back of your upper front teeth using the tip of the toothbrush. With a flicking motion this time, start from the gum line then down the surface of the tooth. Repeat with your lower front teeth, except flicking upwards and outwards instead of down. Finally, thoroughly brush the top, biting surface of your upper and lower premolars and molars with a circular motion, then the inside of your cheeks and tongue. Be more gentle with the latter.

Spit out your toothpaste and rinse at least 2-3 times to ensure any remaining food particles and plaque go down the drain. You can rinse with just mouthwash, or with water first followed by your mouthwash.

Now, getting your teeth thoroughly clean and healthy isn’t just about your brushing technique. Choosing the right toothbrush is also key! While any old toothbrush can do the job, why stick to ordinary results? If you want outstanding oral health, the HiMirror Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush is what you need on your bathroom counter.

Unlike a regular toothbrush, it features sonic technology and vibrates 30,000 times a minute to make brushing both easier and more effective. The vibrations do a better job at minimizing the appearance of stubborn stains, too. It also has ultra soft bristles that are tough enough for cleaning, but still gentle enough for your teeth and gums.

So, when it comes to the basics of your oral hygiene, maybe it’s time for a much needed upgrade?
