7 Natural Ingredients and Their Skin Care Benefits

If at this point you still find yourself shocked seeing seemingly gory substances such as “snail essence” or a kitchen ingredient like “potato” on the ingredients list of your skin care products, I suggest a daily reading of two to three Calyxta articles for a crash course on beauty and natural ingredients!

A non-committal way to start is by masks, like this line-up of affordable facial masks from Beauty Friends II. Read on to find out about the natural ingredients it contains!

SNAIL ESSENCE

As it does with real snails, snail essence serves as a protective barrier covering against nature’s harsh elements. It has also become a common ingredient found in essences and ampoules, for moisture retention and to keep the face plump and well-hydrated. Give snail essence a try with this mask:

RED GINSENG

Countless K-dramas have at one point discussed red ginseng, its rarity, value, and health benefits. It’s expensive, too! The reason is because this natural ingredient is very powerful. Used on skin, it helps slow down signs of aging, leaves your skin moisturized and nourished, and cleans and hydrates your pores. If you aren’t convinced, try this mask and see for yourself.

KIWI

As with most fruits, kiwi is packed with essential vitamins including Vitamins C, A, and B6, which together, can help you achieve a smoother skin texture and address rough and damaged skin. Used as a mask, the kiwi essence sinks deeply onto your skin to give it moisture and nourishing benefits.

GREEN TEA

There’s a reason why Titas love green tea: it is calming, relaxing, and has a faint scent. The same holds true for green tea masks—it soothes as it moisturizes skin for an overall healthy-looking complexion. Green tea extract is best recommended for skin that’s been damaged by UV rays.

TOMATO

Out of all kitchen ingredients, this is probably the one you’d feel the most comfortable using. Tomato is used to achieve a brighter, fairer complexion (think flushed, rosy cheeks!) as it prevents the formation of dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Try this tomato-infused sheet mask!

POTATO

French fries, no matter how good, unfortunately aren’t great for your skin. Switch to a potato mask instead. Potato is used to help smoothen and improve the texture of skin by healing acne marks and dark spots. At the same time, it cleanses, brightens, and moisturizes, too!

SYN-AKE

Syn-ake is an anti-aging treatment that prevents and reduces wrinkles. This particular sheet mask uses syn-ake that contains multiple fruit extracts like grapefruit, licorice, apricot, soy bean, acerola, and more, which brightens the skin tone and gives the skin a healthier complexion.
