When it comes to foundation, I always recommend that one must own two shades – – one that matches your skin and one that is a shade darker. Why? For the obvious and practical reason that we have a tendency to be darker during summer months. Having a shade darker that matches your skin after sun exposure comes in handy especially when summer or holidays are spent traveling. And if you shy away from the sun or outdoor exposure, then you automatically have a bronzer for sun-kissed skin all summer long. But in truth, I always recommend two shades of foundation because the darker shade serves as contour. And the one that matches your skin tone becomes a highlighter. It really isn’t complicated at all. See the steps for below.IF YOU USE DUAL POWDER FOUNDATION….

MAYBELLINE DREAM SATIN TWO-WAY CAKE FOUNDATION

1. Sweep your skin tone match on these following areas: under the eye, between the eyebrows, around the corners of the nose and under the lower lip.

2. If you do a wet application with a sponge, then go ahead and apply your skin tone match as usual.

3. With a an angled makeup brush or contour brush, sweep the dark shade upwards from the hollow of the cheeks. If you want you can lightly suck in your cheeks, make sure to blend all the way to the ear.

4. With a round powder makeup brush, trace the darker shade of foundation along the hairline and make sure to blend into the forehead seamlessly.

5. From the corner of the ear, sweep the dark shade of foundation along the jawline to the center of the chin and repeat on the other side.

IF YOU USE A CREAM OR LIQUID FOUNDATION…

1. Repeat steps 1-5 above with two foundation brushes. You want one foundation brush for each of the shades.

2. Finger application wont work because it will take you forever to seamlessly blend both shades and might be too time consuming and messy.

3. A sponge only soaks up all the products and is not ideal for contouring unlike a brush.

Basically you want to bring out the receding areas with the powder that matches your skin tone and with the darker shade, you want to shade the areas which appear big. Two shades of foundation does the trick in the most natural and fool-proof way.
