Which Korean Star Are You Going As for Halloween?

Going as a Korean idol or a character from a K-drama for Halloween can be exciting, and er, honestly nerve-wrecking, too, what with all the fashion and beauty preps involved! But do as the Korean stars do—work hard (aja!) to get the perfect final look, and take lots of Instagram photos. It will all definitely be worth it!

If all else fails, you can always just borrow your mother’s clothes, put on a curly wig, and be an ahjumma this year. Meanwhile, here are five K-inspired looks to try:

1. A K-pop diva-slash-fashion icon ala CL

Get the look: As CL is rarely seen without full-on makeup, better live up to the standard! Start with an absolutely flawless base, then work on a heavy eye (thick liner, full lashes, you know the drill), and finish with a stand out lip color in hot pink or a burgundy red.

You can also draw CL’s Marilyn Monroe-esque beauty mark on the right side of her face, just a little below the end of her lips with a waterproof liner.

What to wear: A huge, humongous fur that will drown you, and a funky dress underneath. Add extra height and girl power with platform heels or anything that screams gizibe!

A popular K-drama character, such as Kim Bok Joo

Get the look: Remember Bok Joo in Weightlifting Fairy and how she became pinker and pinker the more she fell in love? That’s your cue—be a youth in love:  go for flushed cheeks, pink on the lids, and a candy lip that’s a bit shinier in the middle.

What to wear: An oversized, fluffy sweater or a hoodie, preferably in pink, and put on a cutesy bow on the side of your hair.

3. A fierce girl group member ala Jisoo from BLACKPINK

Get the look: It’s all about girl crush glam. The look is radiant and teeming with youth and fierce energy. So shine and shimmer every chance you get!

Base must be flawless but not a flat matte, add glitter on the inner corners of and below your eyes, and choose a glossy lip. And since your face is already 100%, you can get away with messy-hair-don’t-care.

What to wear: A sparkly pink top and a black-and-white checkerboard print skirt. Put on dangling earrings, too!

4. A character from the Joseon Dynasty like Hong Ra-on from Love In The Moonlight

Get the look: Make-up must be as natural-looking as ever, with special emphasis on flawless skin. After all, you’re benefitting from living with the best of nature in the olden times.

Keep your brows clean, line your eyes lightly, and add only a bit of blush and sheen on the apples of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and your cupid’s bow.

What to wear: A cute hanbok, of course!

5. A Korean student-slash-hardcore fan girl from 1997

Get the look: Look every bit the youthful high school student by focusing on making your eyes innocent and sweet. Use a natural-looking color like a soft, pinkish rose on your lids and add shimmer on the inner corners of your eyes. Line the inner rim of your eyes with a white or a flesh-toned eye liner pencil. Curl your lashes and add only a few coats of mascara on both your upper and lower lashes.

What to wear: A crisp, white, long-sleeved shirt, a navy blue vest with a matching tie, and a pleated skirt.
