Half of the fun in doing make up is being able to play with different colors. There is no reason to be afraid of using out-of-the-box shades – you just have to remember two things: placement (where you are going to apply this unusual shade) and balance (the rest of the colors on the face need to be muted so you don’t end up looking like you’re going to perform in a circus).

Here is a step-by-step guide you may use to play with eyeshadow (in this case, I used an orchid color).

1. Apply Medusa Eyeshadow in Headhunter all over your lid. Take a neutral brown eyeshadow preferably with a matte or satin finish such as the ones on the Eve Pearl Eye Palette in Au Natural, and use your blending brush to contour the crease and seamlessly blend out the orchid shadow on the lid. The key is to exercise the windshield wiper motion technique when doing this step.

2. Line your upper lash line with Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner in Black. Make sure the line gets thicker as your work your way towards the outer eye. For the lower eye, you will be using Pixi Endless Silky Eye Intensify Duo Pencil in Brown Intensify. Tight line the lower waterline with the golden beige color then use the deep matte cocoa brown side of the pencil to lightly line the lower lash line. Start from the outer corner of the eye where the line should be thicker working your way towards the inner corner. Stop three-fourths of the way where the line should be thin enough to disappear into the waterline. You may use a cotton bud to smudge the lower liner to give it a softer finish.

3. Lightly brush pinkish blush on the apples of your cheeks. Don’t overdo this since you already have a lot of color on your eyes. This rule also applies to your lips. Choose a neutral pink lip color such as Besame Lipstick in Debutante Pink or OFRA Liquid Lipstick in Laguna Beach.
