Common Brow Mistakes

By: Ixi Castillo

Eyebrows are so important – they frame the face and give it expression. Because of this, we shape our brows and fill them in in an effort to get that perfect arch. It’s easy to get carried away and we must remember that although we see the different brow trends in runways and magazines, not all faces are the same.

Here are some common mistakes people tend to make:

1. Over Plucking
This is leads to very thin brows that makes you look older than you should look. Fuller brows actually give your face a more youthful expression so take it easy on those tweezers.

2. Keep the Gap Small
The general misconception is that our brows should start aligned to our inner tear ducts. This actually makes the gap between our brows too far making our facial features look wider (i.e. a wider nose). The best place to start your brow is to align it to the top of the bridge of your nose.

3. Block Brow
Oh yes, it looks great in pictures especially in fashion editorials but believe me, it’s not that flattering in real life. When filling in your eyebrows, you want to do so using light flicking motions with your brow pencil or pen. The idea is to mimic real hair. And only apply product to cover those spaces or bald spots.

4. Matchy Matchy
Your brow color does not have to match your haircolor. . Just because you go blonde, doesn’t mean you have to bleach your brows… and by all means, do NOT use black because this makes your face look too harsh. To get a more natural look, choose a shade with a brown undertone mixed with a bit of your true hair color in it. Keep this in mind when choosing a brow pencil as well.

5. Once a Week Maintenance
If you think you can keep those brows in tiptop shape just by plucking once a week, think again! Include tweezing in your morning routine – remove a few stray hairs everyday so you can easily keep the shape without over tweezing.
