The Perfect Hair Cut for Your Face Shape

By: Cat Juan-Ledesma

If you plan to have a new do but can’t decide what kind of cut you should go for, then here are some tips on how you will know what cut will suit your face’s shape.

But first, do you know what your shape is? An old trick is to look straight at a mirror and trace your face’s reflection with an old lip liner. Now take a step back and analyze your shape: round, oval, heart, long, or square. Ready? Let’s get started on your new look for 2015.

Round (Emma Stone and Selena Gomez)

Full cheeks and a youthful face. Round-faced girls look better with cuts below the chin. Opt for a longer style with textured layers and stay away from any styles with tight curls.

Oval (Jessica Alba and Megan Fox)

Oval-faced girls have all the luck. They can wear styles that are both super short or super long and look like a million bucks. It’s suggested that they avoid styles that add too much volume to the top because it can make the face appear too long, but otherwise the sky’s the limit so choose a style that suits your personality (bold colors, perhaps?) and lifestyle (you might want to try a low maintenance pixie cut).

Heart (Reese Witherspoon and Cristina Ricci)

Heart-shaped girls need to bring the attention to the top rather than cuts like a bob, which will draw attention to their chins. Since heart shaped girls have wider foreheads than most, side-swept bangs are always a flattering style. Pixie cuts are often flattering as well.

Long (Liv Tyler and Sarah Jessica Parker)

Long-faced girls should avoid flat very long cuts that add more length to their already long shape. Styles that offer a bit of body and friendly waves look great. Stay away from very short styles, which leave little to frame your face.

Square (Selma Hayek and Demi Moore)

Square-faced girls have faces that tend to look a bit mannish, so stay away from any cuts that draw attention to your jaw. Cuts with choppy ends and a lot of curls can actually soften the face. Styles that go up till the collarbone are usually flattering.

Who do you trust to do your hair? I’d love to hear about it in the forums section.
