New Year, New You: 11 Doable Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions are fun and thrilling in theory, but are quite often hard to maintain all the way until the next season of the year. The key is to just take the plunge and commit to doing something new, brave, and memorable. It need not be an extreme shift from your usual lifestyle, (although if you do feel like doing something drastic, go for it as long as you’ve thought it through!). It could range from subtle changes to the most obvious. The most important aspect of resolutions though, is that you are doing it for yourself and not to please other people. Let them do their own resolutions. This year, you do YOU! Here are some totally realistic and doable resolutions that could totally make for a great 2018:

1. Get a new ‘do

Tired of that bob you’ve sported for the past five New Year’s? Why not get a pixie cut? Or has your virgin hair never been touched by a colorist in your lifetime? Maybe get some highlights! Getting a new hairstyle is one very significant way to mark the start of a new era of you. The best part is, hair grows! So no matter how your new ‘do turns out, rest assured in a few months, your hair will grow out and you can do whatever you want with it all over again!

2. Pick a new signature scent

If you’ve gone through several bottles of the same scent since your college days, why not try out a whiff of something else? You need not ditch your old reliable perfume. You can simply add another special scent for days you just want to feel brand new.

3. Drink your vitamins religiously

It sounds cheesy, we know, but drinking vitamins is one small and simple way of taking care of yourself from the inside to fight off toxins and stress, improve your immune system, and put you in a better and happier disposition! And in case you haven’t seen it yet, Calyxta recently launched a Health and Wellness category to help you embrace a healthier lifestyle!

4. Change up your go-to lipstick shade

We all have that one shade that doesn’t require much thought to put on. We wear it with whatever outfit we’re sporting or whatever occasion we’re attending. 5. Get 8 hours of shuteye

“Sleep is for the weak,” said our teenaged selves. And though our younger versions may have survived on less than four hours of snooze each night, lack of sleep can take a negative toll on one’s health in the long term. Getting a solid eight hours of shuteye helps the body recover and become more refreshed and energetic the following day. Also, more sleep means glowing skin and no eyebags. They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing!

6. Achieve that 10,000 steps daily!

Whether you’ve hopped onto the Fitbit craze or use your own pedometer on your phone, tracking down your daily step count can be a pretty thrilling activity. It gives you a daily goal and that sense of achievement can keep you going every day of 2018. Walking can burn more calories and help you lose inches in the long term, especially when your hectic schedule doesn’t allow for a gym session. Get moving, girl!

7. Remember 3 important letters: SPF

Ask any beauty guru or dermatologist and they will tell you that the number one rule in anti-aging is using sun protection daily. And we mean EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. No excuses. Even on cloudy days, just slather it on. You’ll look years younger even as you grow older.

8. Pick your travel destination for 2018

Travel gives us something to look forward to each year, and saving up for a big trip keeps us motivated to work and just go through every day counting down excitedly to your departure date. And once that day arrives, discovering a new piece of the world always makes us view it from a whole new perspective and leaves us changed for the better.

9. Wash your makeup brushes and sponges regularly

We say this every year, but this year, we really should commit to a regular brush washing schedule. All that gunk and germs that accumulate after weeks of usage can lead to nasty skin infections and breakouts. Also, know when it’s time to replace those sponges and brushes, because as handy as they are, nothing lasts forever.

10. Stop Procarastinating

Just do it! Right now! Whatever it is! And be sure to get energized while doing it.

Give more love. More compassion. More empathy. More time. More hugs. More smiles. Giving need not be about material things (but it can be, because gifts are always appreciated. Wink, wink!).
