Dove Go Shave!

By: Marj Maroket

Growing up, I have been told to never shave my underarms because it could cause darkening. I was so afraid to shave that I just ended up wearing tops with sleeves even during the summer. There would be times when I had no choice but to shave for my swimming class in high school and I never looked forward to it for the fear of my underarms getting dark. The feeling of having no hair under there feels so good though! I can just wear whatever I want and raise my hands whenever I feel like it. Although shaving can be a nightmare, it’s still the most common method of underarm hair removal for 70% of Filipinas because it is the quickest and most convenient way. But when we shave, 1/3 of what we remove is actually skin, which leads to underarm darkening. Shaving the underarm skin leaves it irritated then it becomes bumpy, dry and dark.

Just recently, Dove launched an event called #DoveGoShave at The Greens in Greenbelt 5 where Dove girls Patti Laurel-Filart, Dani Baretto, Kelly Misa-Fernandez and Saab Magalona shared their shaving stories growing up. They all agreed that shaving is their go-to underarm hair removal method but it has also given them undesirable underarms. Dra. Anna Palabyab-Rufino of the Philippine Dermatological Society says, “Shaving is practically considered a necessity as women want to remove underarm hair, which is why using a deodorant with moisturizing benefits on a daily basis is the perfect way to care for your underarms.” Dove encourages women to go shave your underarms and use Dove deodorant because it contains ¼ moisturizing cream that soothes underarm skin from irritation and helps repair damage caused by shaving, making underarms lighter and smoother.

At the end of the program, we all were given a customized Dove Deo care kit that contains a set of Dove’s original deodorants, bath towels, a personalized notebook, a razor, and shaving cream. Now, I can shave anytime without the fear of getting dark underarms, all thanks to Dove!
