Gabbi Garcia: Everyday Gabbi

Our previous cover stories this month showed us two different sides of Gabbi Garcia—how her morena skin has inspired her to speak up and empower others to love themselves, and her exciting journey of being Maybelline’s It Girl.

Moving on to the third cover story of our Morena Muse and August 2018 #CalyxtaGirl, Gabbi shows us a more candid side this time around—an everyday Gabbi who gets a little bit more comfortable during our interview, laughs and jokes around, and is not afraid to share that like any normal teenager, she sometimes gets lazy to do the chores at home (I mean, to be honest, who doesn’t?), and even gets reprimanded for it—something we don’t normally see in her usually bubbly and exceptionally colorful Instagram feed. Sometimes, we tend to forget that even our favorite cover girls have lives away from the limelight and do even the most mundane things—like doing the dishes. And it’s exactly these tidbits of information that make them even more real to us.

Read more about our cover girl and what she normally does outside of shoots and promotions.

What’s your current day time and evening skin care routine?

I’m really devoted to my skin care. As in I never skip a day without doing my skin care routine night and day. For night time, I use a facial wash, toner, essence, serum, eye cream, and moisturizer. Dami eh! In the morning when I wake up, I wash my face, then essence and serum again, and then moisturizer with SPF.

On a normal non-showbiz day, what do you like to do?

I bond with my family and friends. I see to it that I have a well-maintained and balanced life, by not only working, but also by spending quality time with my loved ones. I also see to it that I have my alone time—like I go to the spa. Right now, I really love going to the gym. It’s something new to me. Before, I used to be super lazy. (laughs) I didn’t like going to the gym. But now, I’m super game. I even did boxing recently.

How did you get into diving, cycling, and shooting?

Because of my dad. My dad does everything. So when I was kid, since we didn’t have a boy in the family (just me and my sister), my dad used to expose me to different adventurous things. I started scuba diving when I was 10 years old. I got the course when I was 10. I really studied, as in! I’m licensed up to now. I’m advanced open water now.

How deep is advanced open water?

80 feet. With cycling, it’s the same. My dad and I, we do trails. Recently, we’ve been doing it every Sunday. But only if I have time and if I’m not puyat. Then sometimes, we do shooting, like airsoft.

What’s your relationship like with your family? And who’s your biggest role model in the family?

We’re really close actually. I’m close with my cousins, especially my sister. We’re really, super close. We’re like best friends. My role model—myself. Chos! Self-centered. (laughs) My role model is my mom. I admire how she manages everything. She tries her best to really compose herself in a very graceful way. She’s been flying for 25 years already, and I admire her loyalty and her dedication to her career, and at the same time to her family.

What’s one thing that people don’t know about you? Or that they don’t normally see on Instagram?

Inuutusan pa rin ako sa bahay. (laughs) Really. As in. I’m being real. We don’t have any help in the  house, so it’s only the four of us. You do your own dishes, you do your own chores, and you fix your own bed. Of course, sometimes, I get lazy. Napapagalitan pa rin ako. (laughs)
