Ingredients 101: Carabao’s Milk

The concept of pampering yourself through beauty treats is already beautiful in itself but— knowing you actually help someone by doing this makes it all the more alluring. Kala Milk brings this concept to an actual practice. Having started in 2010 as an initiative to give the farmers of Baliuag, Bulacan a chance to earn additional income, the Gonzales family (founders of Kala Milk) makes sure that for every purchase of their product, part of the proceeds will be allotted for an educational fund to help send the children of carabao farmers to school and since the main ingredient for the soaps is carabao’s milk, they also help the farmers earn an additional income of P200 to P 500 per day.

Kala Milk soaps are natural and handcrafted using the cold process method. The soaps are made from carabao’s milk, food-grade virgin coconut oil, and other natural ingredients. Some essential oils are also infused in the products to give some health and skin benefits. Speaking of benefits, aside from avoiding the harsh effects of chemicals on your skin, because the soaps are all-natural, carabao’s milk offer a wide range of perks! Milk, in general, helps improve the complexion of the skin but carabao’s milk has high fat levels (good fat) with about 10 to 12%, and vital proteins which most milks don’t contain. This makes it more advantageous for your skin as compared to regular milk. Carabao milk fat contains acids that help your skin look younger—like oleic acid and palmitic oil. In a less technical note, carabao skin helps make your skin feel soft and look radiant!

Keeping all these benefits in mind, Kala Milk products look super promising. They seem like products that my skin would thank me for, and let’s not forget their advocacy! Younger and more radiant skin while helping a farmer’s child go to school? Now that’s something we can’t say no to!

Personally these products really spark my interest:

Kala Milk Soap – Original

I feel like with all the chemicals that touch my skin everyday, the chance of getting dry and damaged skin is not far off the trail. I have a hunch that since this is a pure milk soap, it will be the one that will maximize the potential and benefits of carabao’s milk.

Kala Milk Soap – Lavender

The description on their website says it’s perfect for your most relaxing bath yet. As a stressed college student, I’d bet on anything that would help me relax plus the aroma of lavender is something I wouldn’t mind at all!

Kala Milk Soap – Coffee

I love coffee and I’m also aware of the benefits that it can give the skin like how it can act as a natural exfoliator. I want to try this one out because I’m excited about how the benefits of both coffee and carabao’s milk will combine, and how it’ll make my skin feel.

Kala Milk – Lotion

I’m not a fan of lotions, mostly because they’re super sticky on the skin and we live in a tropical country. So when this one promised to give me a moisturized body but without the sticky feeling I’ve always dreaded, I immediately want to try the product!
