Cheat Sheet: How To Choose The Right Sheet Mask For You

Sheet masks are the beauty gods’ gift to women (and men!). And there are literally a gazillion to choose from! So much that a Tita like me had a lot to research, and here I will try to simplify things to help you find the right sheet mask for you.

Korean, Japanese, and Taiwanese sheet masks are invading our shores these days, and you honestly shouldn’t pick one depending on which country makes the best dramas, right? So, here’s a quick roundabout on each:

Koreans have a more glamorous approach to skincare, thus the multi-step routines. They have the cutest and best packaging and are more attuned to beauty trends.

Japanese skin care, on the other hand, are minimalists to the core, and are primarily concerned with only the basics, e.g. cleansing. They would rather keep their routine to a few steps, with targeted ingredients.

The Taiwanese brands bring together dermatology and science, in order to formulate products that target specific functions for the skin.

Having learned all that, the next step now is to define your skin issues to know which type of mask/s you need. Since most beauty girls are more informed about Korean and Japanese masks, here’s a guide on how to choose from Calyxta’s wide selection of Taiwanese masks:

For skin that’s dull and dreary, a nutrient-infused mask is a gift that keeps on giving. Try SexyLook’s skin-protecting face mask, or this face mask with nano-diamond particles that help restore your skin’s health.

For skin that’s uneven with marks and blemishes, go for masks with brightening gold foils or the L-Ascorbic Acid one from MyScheming that’s infused with arbutin to protect your skin from further breakouts.

For skin that’s dry as our 37-degree and up weather (and my tita humor!), a face mask with snail essence helps retain moisture on your skin, while a highly moisturizing sheet mask with black currant extracts is also good for hydration.

For skin that’s got pores visible from miles away, target your blackheads with this activated carbon mask set from MyScheming, or this pore-minimizing black mask, which has hyaluronic acid to balance the oil and moisture on your skin.

For skin that needs brightening from within, this essence mask from MyScheming promises your face to emit a glow like fireflies in abandoned grass fields common in Philippine provinces.

For skin that’s beginning to show signs of aging, MyScheming’s collagen mask is a fountain of youth in a sheet. You can also try a brightening, black pearl mask, or a rose dew-infused one to bring back skin’s vitality and elasticity.
