Bacne

There are few things more annoying than having zits on your back. Most of the time, bacne is a result of your hormones and sebaceous glands working on overdrive. If do you suffer from this, here are my suggestions on how to clear up your skin. You’ll be wearing spaghetti straps with confidence in no time!

  • Start by going to the spa and getting a body scrub, focusing on your back. This will clear your skin of blackheads and whiteheads.
  • Use an anti-bacterial cleanser on your back. Stay away from soaps that are heavily scented, and that over-dry your skin. When skin is too dry, the pores work double time to restore moisture to the skin, making it oilier than usual.
  • Use a sugar scrub on your back twice a week to clear your skin from dead skin cells and debris that can clog your pores.
  • Sometimes residue from conditioners can contribute to clogging the pores on your back. Rinse hair and skin with cool water to make sure your pores stay closed. Also, take extra care and make sure there is no conditioner left on the skin. You could also consider skipping conditioners altogether, at least until your back clears up.
  • Change your top immediately after a workout. Sweat is a breeding ground for bacteria, which can cause acne to spread.
  • Wash your clothes with laundry soaps for sensitive skin, which are free from dyes, perfumes and chemicals. Irritation to detergents can cause bacne flare-ups.
  • Ask your dermatologist to recommend an anti-acne cream that will help clear up your back quickly.
  • Home remedies: Use Greek yoghurt as a mask on your back. Yoghurt is a probiotic that helps reduce bad bacteria on the skin (bacteria is a feeding ground for acne). Use a mixture of half apple cider vinegar and half water as a natural astringent. Put in a spray bottle and squirt on to your back every night to dry up acne.
