Product Review: Avene High Protection Emulsion

By: Cat Juan-Ledesma

I’ve been putting sunblock on my face and neck daily since I was 18. So I know my sun protecting ingredients and have tried tons of brands, some more perfect for my needs than others. I am pretty picky when it comes to the type of daily sun armor I use: It shouldn’t break me out, make me feel greasy, or leave a whitish cast on my face. I’m happy to report that Avene’s Very High Protection 50+ ticks all the boxes.

I was initially skeptical about using this product because it looked extremely white when placed on my fingers. I’ll also be honest that its smell has little to be desired but it quickly evaporates. The whitish cast leaves rather quickly and what your left with is a slightly matte finish that doesn’t feel greasy at all.

I’ve used this as a primer underneath my foundation and it works exceptionally well. I’ve also tested it while doing laps and it didn’t run into my eyes and I didn’t get burned. This product is definitely a staple in my skincare arsenal from now on.

I recommend Avene’s Very High Protection 50+ for you if:

1. You spend a lot of time outdoors and are looking for a daily face sunblock that isn’t heavy but has a really high SPF.

2. You want to avoid having a whitish cast to your skin.

3. You need a high protection face and neck sunblock for sports or swimming.
