By: Amanda Padilla

Among the things that need to be in every woman’s makeup drawer include a tinted moisturizer, an eyelash curler, brown eyeliner, mascara and, of course, the perfect red lipstick. Wearing a red lip tells people in the workplace that you are a formidable woman, a force to be reckoned with. It says don’t mess with me. On the other hand, it can also set the mood for romance. Red lips make you oh so desirable to the opposite sex by highlighting your feminine prowess. A lot of ladies are intimidated by wearing a color that is so strong but we need to swing out of that mindset. Red is the new neutral. It goes with just about anything.

Fair skin. Cherry reds and cranberry look best on light skin. Be sure to pick a red that has a blue undertone for the most flattering effect. A bright, classic red is a great pick for an everyday look. For evening you might want to try a red wine or cranberry colored shade.

Medium skin. Orangey reds look gorgeous on those with golden skin because it sets off the skin with a healthy glow. Those looking for a more sophisticated look might want to try a raspberry color. This looks vampy without looking goth.

Dark skin. Bright, opaque colors look best against dark skin. Try using a vibrant fuchsia or a tangerine red. A deep blackberry is also a beautiful choice for those looking for a sexier look.

Precise application is a must when using red lipstick and its so simple to do. First, use a red lip liner all over the lips. Make sure that you draw a clean line on the outer parts of the lip then fill in the inside. Next, use a flat, synthetic lip liner brush to apply the lipstick. This guarantees an even application and keeps the edges neat. For those of you not ready to take the plunge into wearing red lipstick just quite yet, try sheering out the color with a little bit of petroleum jelly.
