Sweat / Water / Workout – Proofing your makeup

By: Alyanna Martinez

No one has ever said that they don’t want to look their best at all possible times. So, working out or by laying by the pool or beach is no exception. It doesn’t matter whether it’s mountain climbing, camping or any othert ourtdoor, I always want to make sure I look my best. Looking my best not only makes me feel better about my day but also ensures I look picture perfect no matter what the activity is. However, this does not mean I want to look like I have a full face of makeup on, as though I have an event or photo shoot.

Sweat-proofing and water-proofing your makeup is more about looking as natural as possible without your makeup sliding off or dripping down your face. You want to look naturally flawless and radiant without looking like you are actually wearing any makeup.  With these tips I assure you that you will look picture perfect, very natural and you will feel confident about your appearance. Like I love to say, its still you, just the best most natural version of you.

Step 1: Ensure you start off with super clean and towel dried skin.

Step 2: Make your skin is well moisturized with a non-oily or oil controlling moisturizer to make sure your makeup will last longer. Try: Papulex Oil-free Cream

Step 3: While waiting for your moisturizer to settle in (give it at least 10minutes) prep your lips with a very emollient lip moisturizer. Try: Besame Sweetheart Lip Balm in Rose.

Step 4: After your moisturizer has had time to settle in, a makeup primer is a crucial step. Not only will it act as a flawless base for your makeup, it will also ensure your makeup will adhere better to your skin and as a result last longer. I use an oil controlling one which helps absorb excess oils throughout the day which also helps make sure my makeup stays in place.

Step 5: Once skin and lips are nice and prepped I recommend using a BB cream or lightweight coverage foundation that is oil free, has high spf and most importantly waterproof/ water resistant at the least. Apply using your fingers or a blending makeup sponge to ensure very light and well blended coverage for a natural finish. Try: The Odbo BB Cream

Step 6: Under eye concealers are also very important. Select one that is one shade lighter than your skin tone and apply in a triangular shape under  your eyes for a wide awake brightening effect. Blend up and out with your ring finger.

Step 7: To ensure your makeup stays in place set everything with a powder using a large fluffy brush. This will ensure your makeup will stay in place no matter what you door how much you perspire.

Step 8: Now that your base is ready prepped and primed. Use a water resistant or waterproof brow marker/felt tip pen or brow pomade to lightly fill in your brows using an angled brow brush. Set with clear brow gel or waterproof tinted brow set. Try: Urban Decay Brow Box

Step 9: I would skip any eye makeup products because the combination or sweat, oil, water and or the sun will make even the most creaseless eye product eventually crease or melt off and irritate your eyes. If you do wish to add some color, gel pencils used on your waterline are best since they wont smudge. I also recommend skipping liquid eyeliner on your top lash line for this will just make you look too made up and not very natural looking.

Step 10: Curl your lashes like normal then apply a waterproof mascara to only your top lashes. Avid the bottom lashes coz these too can have the tendency to melt off with extreme sweat or heat.

Step 11: Skip powder bronzer, blush and highlighters. The look you are going for is naturally flushed. A cream or lip and cheek tint will ensure the most naturally flushed cheek glow and will also last through the day.

Step12: Use the same stain on your lips.

Step13: Finish off and seal your entire look with a long lasting makeup setting spray. Try: Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Make Up Setting Spray

Remember do not towel off or wipe your face because this can compromise the waterproofness of your makeup and will cause even the most waterproof products to smudge. To wipe away water or sweat from your face, gently pat dry and reapply powder only when necessary. To refresh your makeup after a long sweaty day simply re-mist your face with your setting spray.
