The red lip remains one of the top beauty looks of all time but of late, I’ve noticed that it has been reinvented these past few seasons. Last year, it was all about the matte red lip and although it still remains huge with the Kylie Lip Kits selling out in as little as two minutes online, we’re beginning to see a new trend emerge: the wearable deep red lip. I’m talking about a merlot stain that doesn’t add years to your face and, more importantly, feels comfortable on your lips. The Medusa lipstick in Lolita from Calyxta is all that and more with its moisturizing properties and powerful pigments which ensure that your lovely deep reddish hue will stay on even after you’ve had a bowl of your fave Bolognese.
For beauty aficionados like me, the Medusa lipstick is a winner just by the way it slides effortlessly on your lips and leaves you with a lovely wine-like stain, but what also took my breath away was its lovely packaging. I think all make up addicts will agree that packaging can make or break a product and this lipstick, with its fancy black, gothic chic casing actually makes me look forward to touching-up in public.
I think the thing I love the most about this lipstick, though, is its versatility. For daytime, I can downplay its striking hue by diluting its powerful pigment with a swipe of lip balm. The lipstick itself then transforms to a lovely berry stain that goes well with curled lashes, a tiny bit of mascara, and a hint of peachy-pink blush. For evenings out, you can achieve a power pout by grabbing a lip liner in a similar hue, and applying it all over your lips. Afterwards, use the Medusa lipstick to seal the deal, and you’ve got yourself a foolproof statement lip.
