Primer 101

By: Ixi Castillo

When we hear makeup-saavy people say the word ‘primer,’ we automatically think that it’s just a product that only Pros use but there is a reason why it actually exists in the market. Here’s the lowdown:

  1. Primer is applied after skincare and before foundation.
  2. Give your primer a little time to dry before starting the makeup application.
  3. Primer prepares your skin for foundation. It helps target specific concerns thus helping your foundation and concealer work better.
  4. There are different primers in the market that do different things. Buy a primer that best suits your skin type or that will help you achieve what you want in terms of what makeup look you are going for.

Example: There are primers that are tinted green or yellow to help combat redness, there are those that mattify your skin, and those that will help you get that dewy glowing finish. There are even primers that help minimize pores and wrinkles.

  1. There are also eye primers which you apply before eyeshadow and lip primers for lipsticks. These help make the color of the pigments more vibrant.
  2. Primers help your foundation glide on better and helps your makeup better adhere to your skin thus making it last longer throughout the day.
