How to Look Like You’ve Had 8 Hours of Sleep

By: Cat Juan-Ledesma

We all know what it’s like — days when life seems to be on fast-forward. Between work, family, and your own little creative ventures, there just isn’t enough time for a break.  Our bodies need between 6-8 hours of sleep to fully reboot and heal. For those days that you can’t reach that quota, we can offer a quick cheat sheet to make you look well rested.

This three-step guide is for when you have nowhere particularly special to go, but don’t want to freak yourself out when you pass a mirror. Just promise us that you’re going to get that much needed shut-eye once this day is over.

Step 1: A good concealer:

Repeat after me “I will not scrimp on my concealer”. Ideally, I’d like you to invest in two concealers: a thinner formula for under the eyes that won’t crease and a creamier variety for red spots, broken veins, acne scars, etc. Choose a yellow-based concealer that is one two shades lighter than your perfect foundation.

Dot concealer under your eyes, on the sides of your nose and around your nostrils (I swear this works), dab the creamier variety on any dark spots or red bumps.

Step 2: A lip & cheek tint that lasts:

Lip and cheek tints are perfect for adding a healthy flush to the face on days for when I need to run simple errands or work from home but want to feel a little put together.

Make sure lips are well moisturized but free from any products before putting the tint. Allow the tint to fully dry before topping with your favorite clear gloss. Place two dots on both apples of the cheek and swirl gently moving upwards till properly blended. A good tint doesn’t require a lot of product and should last for more than a few hours on the lips and the whole day on the cheeks. I like Tarte Cheek Stain in Flush.

Step 3: Highlighter for instant glow

Highlighters have come a long way from their rather chalky-looking beginnings. Today’s versions are so finely milled that they can look natural in even the harshest daylight.

Dab a bit of highlighter in the inner corners of your eyes, on your brow bone, and right above your cheekbones — stroking outwards. You’ll instantly feel like your skin is dewy and happy. I like Egyptian Queen Sheer Glo Illuminating Lotion.
