Color Correcting 101

A quick and easy guide on which colors work best to correct and conceal your deepest, darkest secrets.

When it comes to concealing, there’s usually just one color that comes to mind: skin tone. Most makeup artists will argue though that a concealer in your skin tone or ideally, a shade lighter, won’t work for all of your skin woes. LA Girl’s six fab Pro-Conceal shades (P200 each) help create the perfect face. Here’s a comprehensive guide on which hues work best for specific concerns:

Green is perfect for masking any sort of redness like pimples, rosacea or even tiny broken capillaries. Green works by canceling out the red, and this can be done with just a tiny bit of product. Make sure to pat the product on so that it goes on seamlessly.

Use this hue to hide purple or blue bruises, veins, and dark under eye circles. A yellow concealer would be the best choice for evening out skin tone to give a bright base for your foundation. Depending on your skin tone, it can also serve as an eye shadow base if you don’t have an eye primer handy.

This color is perfect for people with darker skin tones looking to hide dark circles or other spots with deep discoloration. Those with lighter skin tones won’t benefit much from this hue unless contouring is what’s on your agenda.

This is ideal for brightening around the eye area and concealing signs of fatigue. This particular concealer color is a mixture of red, orange, and yellow hues and acts as a great brightening agent to cover raccoon eyes and to give sallow olive skin tones a much needed radiance.

Keep in mind that it’s always ideal to start off with a primer. A primer like LA Girl’s Pro Smoothing Primer (P350) provides a smoother canvas, and helps the concealer adhere better!

It’s also important to remember, when picking a corrector, the depth of the chosen hue is also something that must be considered. So if you have darker skin, for example, pick a deeper green or darker lilac. Pastels have too much white in them and will be too light for deep skin tones.

After concealer application, make sure to finish off with a loose powder like LA Girl’s HD Pro Setting Powder in Banana Yellow (P300). This powder seals everything in like a dream!
