All About Mineral Makeup

When mineral makeup made a splash on the beauty scene a few years ago, it was deemed very trendy. Though technically having been around for decades, demand increased in the past few years once people heard of the perks when using this type of makeup. It was such a hit that various iconic brands released their own lines, and new brands quickly popped up left and right. It’s built such a solid fanbase and has gone beyond trendy, which proves it’s here to stay in the beauty scene permanently. But what exactly is mineral makeup? If you’re still a little clueless but curious about this highly beneficial product range, below are a few things you need to know:

1. The things it lacks are what make it great.

Mineral makeup is made of, well, minerals—iron oxides, mica, and titanium dioxides. They are ground into fine particles to create the makeup. What it does lack are parabens, alcohol, perfumes, preservatives, and artificial colors. Basically, all the stuff that are said to be your skin’s worst enemies.

2. It is deemed the “healthy” makeup.

Just like how we associate taking our vitamins and minerals daily to boost our health, mineral makeup boosts the skin’s health. Since it lacks all those harmful ingredients mentioned above, it doesn’t cause allergies or skin irritation. In fact, its mineral contents have anti-inflammatory properties that benefit those suffering from acne, rosacea, and eczema. If you notice, these minerals are also found in sunscreen, so if used regularly, they play a huge part in preventing signs of aging. These ingredients also don’t clog pores the way regular makeup does, and allows the skin to breathe.

3. It just looks more natural.

Most users attest that mineral makeup looks just like second skin when applied on their faces. Fret not though—mineral makeup is still highly buildable and can provide ample coverage for skin imperfections without it looking cakey. The way it makes light bounce off the skin creates a soft-focus finish that makes one’s skin look more youthful.

4. It is very long lasting.

It lasts long both on your skin and on the shelf. It doesn’t harbor bacteria, ensuring a longer shelf life. Those who have tried it attest that when applied, it can withstand the tests of climate (and even tears!) and stay on without budging or smudging.

5. There is a vast selection of mineral makeup brands.

*Ellana – The new kid on the Calyxta block, Ellana is the top mineral cosmetic brand in the Philippines. It offers a wide array of affordable and high quality mineral makeup products, with bestsellers like it’s Loose Mineral Foundation (Php499.00) and Pressed Mineral Foundation (Php599.00).

*Innisfree – Though technically not a purely mineral makeup brand, this Korean superbrand has a widely popular No Sebum Mineral Powder (Php375.00) that absorbs oil and leaves face with a matte finish.

*Moist Labo – This Japanese brand has a Mineral Pressed Powder (Php1,100.00) that covers spots and pores and offers SPF40 PA+++ protection to boot!

*Human Nature – Here is another local brand that has joined the mineral makeup bandwagon via it’s Perfect Finish Mineral Loose Powder (Php425.00), a lightweight powder with a natural, non-cakey, and even

finish.
