Nailed It! Different Ways to Strengthen your Nails

Well-groomed and polished nails have always been a signifier of being glam and put together. However, going about our daily lives can cause our lovely nails to get damaged one way or another. Which is why certain measures must be taken to make sure our tips and toes are healthy and glowing. Here are ten tips to keep those talons strong:

1. Load up on the protein.

Nails are made from a protein called keratin, which is also found in hair, and it is essential to up your protein intake to ensure nail strength. Poultry, beef, fish, and spinach are excellent sources of protein and should definitely be on your diet list.

2. Use an Argan oil nail treatment.

Argan oil is a miracle elixir that can be used in a variety of ways, including as a nail strengthener. You can try mixing equal parts lemon juice and Argan oil and soak your nails in the concoction for about 10 minutes to limit nail breakage. Massage this wonder oil on dry cuticles to soften them, too!

3. Try to not use your nails as tools.

We are all guilty of cracking open soda cans or scratching off price tags on things absentmindedly. Doing so causes stress on the tips of your nails and can lead to breakage. Use a key to pop open cans or scratch stuff next time, instead of your nails!

4. Drink lots of water.

In case you haven’t noticed, in every beauty routine, whether for hair, skin or nails, H20 is key! Drinking your daily quota of eight glasses will keep not only your nails healthy, but your entire body in tip top shape as well.

5. Don’t cut your cuticles.

It’s common practice in some nail salons to do so, and while cutting them makes the polish on your nails look good, cutting cuticles is not the way to go. It is meant to be there as a barrier to bacteria. Pushing them back would be a safer alternative, so next time you go to the nail salon, just give your manicurist a gentle reminder to do so.

6. Get proper manicures.

Though it is necessary to let your nails breathe and rest from the polish occasionally, pampering your tips to regular manicures make them look great and groomed. Also, using proper nail polish won’t damage your nails and will make them look pretty to boot! Plus just the routine of getting mani-pedis is great for general wellbeing and de-stressing.

7. Keep them short.

While long talon like nails are very trendy, they are hardly practical and limits certain things you can do with your hands (like typing on a keyboard or buttoning clothes). Also, they make nails prone to breakage. You don’t have to keep them too short, but just a manageable length that looks fab but does not hinder your day to day tasks.

8. Add hand cream to your moisturizing routine.

We’ve got tons of lotions and potions for our face and body, yet some of us neglect to have hand cream in our arsenal. It does wonders to moisturize your hands and keep your nails healthy and glowing. Try to keep one handy in your purse, especially when you wash your hands quite often.

9. Wear gloves when you wash dishes.

Excessive water and dishwashing liquid contact will be hell on your nails, so always better to keep them protected.

10. DO NOT BITE YOUR NAILS.
And I repeat, do not bite your nails.
