How to Nail A Simple French Braid

By: Amanda Padilla

Step 1: Start by brushing your hair back. Make sure that it is knot-free and soft. Your hair can be either dry or damp. If it is damp, your hair will have soft waves when you take the braid apart. You may put a little bit of gel in your hair to keep the braid looking neat and hold the baby hairs in place.

Step 2: Gather all the hair from the crown of your head to about an inch above your ear. It will look like a half-ponytail. Divide the hair into three equal parts, like how you would when you start a regular braid.

Step 3: Start braiding by taking two sections on one hand, and the remaining section on the other hand. Take the left section and put it over the center section. Then take the right section and put it over the center section.

Step 4: Add new hair into the braid by gathering about an inch of hair from both the right and left side of your head. Incorporate the new hair in the braid. Add the hair you gathered on the left side to the original left section, and the hair you gathered on the right side to the original right section.

Step 5: Keep repeating Steps 3 and 4 until you are at the nape of your neck.

Step 6: Continue by doing a regular braid until you have about 2 inches of hair left. Secure braid with a hair tie.
