How to Keep Your Hair From Aging

By: Xeng Zulueta

If you think skin is the only thing that appears to be aging, guess what–so does hair. In your 20s hair is strong, full and shiny. In your 30s you start to see dullness, dryness and visible hair damage. In your 40s, hair starts to thin, turn grey and break. Come 50s your scalp and hairline start to show. Half of your head is grey and hair becomes limp. And in your 60s most of your hair is grey and you suffer from hair loss.

Here are the top 7 signs of hair aging and their remedies:

1. Split ends – detangle with a wide-tooth comb in the shower and mind your heating tools. Whip up a mixture of avocado, egg whites and olive oil until creamy and apply as a hair mask.

2. Hair breakage – hair mask made with eggs, honey and olive oil strengthens the hair.

3. Frizz – while hair is still damp from the shower, make sure to squeeze out all the water and then apply coconut oil evenly all over. Detangle with a wide tooth comb and continue to squeeze out the water with a towel. Brush your hair every 5 minutes until hair is completely air-dried. Avoid drying hair with a hair dryer.

4. Unruly greys – boil curry leaves in a tablespoon of coconut oil until leaves are charred. Massage into your hair and leave for 45 minutes and rinse out. Do this twice a week to prevent and deal with grey hairs. You can also consume curry juice daily with a little bit of virgin coconut oil.

5. Lackluster color – avoid hot showers or shampooing hair under hot or warm water. Run the hair under cold water before stepping out of the shower to make it shiny.

6. Thinning – take folic acid and biotin for hair growth.

7. Dryness – sleep on a satin pillow. Natural oils from the scalp smooth down on the hair shaft as your sleep distributing moisture when rubbing against a satin pillow.
