Who says you have to spend a lot of money on salon treatments for your hair? You might be surprised to find out that things found in your kitchen can help bring life and shine back to your hair.

All Hair Types

Use a raw egg as a moisturizing hair masque. Egg yolks are rich in protein, which help in restoring damaged hair, and the whites are great for reducing oiliness of the hair and scalp. If you have dry hair, use only the yolks. For normal hair, use the whole egg. Use just the whites if you have oily hair. Leave on for 20 minutes and rinse with cold water then shampoo.

Dull Hair

A bottle of beer sprayed on clean hair will give your hair intense shine. Use a beer that uses a lot of hops and yeast, like an IPA. The oil from hops is packed with antioxidants, proteins and minerals that are beneficial to hair. It also gives body to limp hair.

Dry Hair

Mash up half an avocado and apply it on clean hair. Leave it on for 20 minutes then wash it off. If your hair is extra crunchy, you might want to add a tablespoon of mayonnaise to this mixture.

Also, make sure that you buy shampoo, conditioner and other hair products that are specifically made for your hair type. A big trend in hair care nowadays is products that incorporate agave oil. When used on hair, the natural sugars coming from the agave plant help strengthen hair and at the same keep moisture sealed in. It is lifesaver for any hair type because it has the ability to give shine to dull, damaged hair without weighing it down. It also tames curls and frizz making rebellious hair more manageable. Shampoos with agave oil work wonderfully with colored hair because it helps extend and maintain the color.
