Haircut for Different Hair Types

By: Cat Juan-Ledesma

Everybody’s hair grows different and a well-seasoned hair stylist will be able to tell with just a few fluffs of your hair whether or not a trendy hair style will work in your favor or against it. Here are some tips to help you on the right path:

Thick hair: If you’re lucky enough to have fat strands of hair that offer you a lioness-like mane, then feel free to play with the bob which is so popular these days. A bob with inverse layering, where they make the inside strands shorter, will help thin your hair a bit so it doesn’t get too unruly.

Fine hair: This is my personal struggle. My fine, limp hair often doesn’t want to do anything but just lie there. Try to go for some volumizing waves by using a big barrel curling iron. Another option is to go for a full fringe to play with some dimension. Also volumizing sprays and mousse are your best friends, be sure to take advantage of them.

Curly hair: It may not be the easiest type of hair to manage, but when done right, a crown of curls can look absolutely beautiful. Opt for slightly longer styles to weigh hair down. Anything chin length and up isn’t always manageable. The thing about curly hair is the less you do with it the better. Place some leave in conditioner and gently comb with fingers.

Straight hair: Sleek, smooth, and shiny. Straight hair is the most coveted type according the countless commercials we see around us. Straight hair is often flattering when long, but you can also go for an ultra short cut with side swept bangs for a chic look.

Coarse hair: More white hairs as you grow older means coarser strands that need a little more extra care than before. Chunky layers and shorter styles are more appealing for this time in your life. The longer the style, the more chances that the ends will look like a broom. Be generous with your conditioner and hair masks as well.
