Different Nail Shapes

By: Cat Juan Ledesma

The next time you head to your trusty nail salon and your beloved nail technician asks, “Round or square?” Here are some other shapes you can actually explore trying:

Rounded: The love child of both round and square and my personal favorite. This shape is flattering on long fingers and has a natural look to it.

Squared oval: Also called a “squoval” but don’t ask us how to properly pronounce that. This is an oval with edgier sides. This shape looks nice on most fingers and makes fingers look a little longer.

Oval: A rounded shape with a more tapered end. This definitely makes your hands look longer and flatters a wide number of colors and patterns.

Mountain peak: Also called the stiletto, this is not for the faint of heart. But it has become popular with celebrities like Rihanna and Fergie. It might scare away your boyfriend, but give it a try nonetheless.

Almond: This is a slightly rounded, safer version of the super pointed nail. This one also works better with a rounded look to the entire nail bed, which is achieved by using acrylics.

Square: Also a recent popular look. Great for when you’re using bold solid colors.
