Ingredients 101: Coconut Oil

Before all the buzz on miracle oils such as Argan Oil, Castor Oil, and Sunflower Oil (to name a few), there was already COCONUT OIL! The seasoned and trusty Coconut Oil is still definitely a strong front-runner and a staple when it comes to being your go-to oil that does it all.

Besides the countless health benefits attached to its name, Coconut Oil has a very long list of beauty benefits that every beauty girl needs to know about! Keep reading to find out, as we give you a rundown of ten topical skincare, body care, and hair care hacks of Coconut Oil.

1. Makeup Remover

It’s a very effective natural makeup remover that can cleanse and melt away even the most stubborn, waterproof makeup. Not only does it keep your face clean, it gives your skin that boost of hydration and softness while at it.

2. Lip Balm

Treat and counter dry, chapped lips by slathering plain coconut oil on your pretty puckers for ultimate moisturization that keeps your lips soft and healthy-looking.

3. Lip Gloss

Get instant gloss and shine with plain coconut oil!

4. Longer and Thicker Eyelashes

Brush onto eyelashes every night (with a cotton bud, apply as if you’re putting on mascara!) before going to bed to boost your lashes’ growth and pigmentation for fuller and longer lashes.

5. Highlighter

Sweep a small (very light!) amount of coconut oil on top of your makeup for that instant glow! According to The Beauty Gypsy, many natural makeup brands use coconut oil as a base ingredient in their formulas for this purpose.

6. Nails and Cuticles

Massage coconut oil onto nails and cuticles to strengthen them and rub some onto fingertips to soothe and prevent hangnails. Coconut oil contains Medium Chain Triglycerides, a type of acid that makes it quick-absorbent and helps transport nutrients to cells faster and efficiently.

7. Acne

Mix some coconut oil with nutmeg and leave on your pimple for about 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse off after.

8. Body Scrub

Mix six (6) tablespoons each of coconut oil and brown sugar (you can opt to add drops of orange and lemon essential oils!). Beat the coconut oil until its textures becomes soft and fluffy. Add the remaining ingredients and continue to stir. Use inside the shower and gently massage onto damp skin. Rinse off the scrub and your skin will be feeling soft and supple!

9. Dark Patches

Squeeze one whole lemon and mix the juice with a teaspoon of coconut oil. Rub into dry and dark elbows and knees to whiten dark spots and patches.

10. Hair Serum

Rub a tiny drop of coconut oil between your palms. Run your fingers through your hair to evenly distribute the oil—keeping your hair soft, shiny, and frizz-free all day!
