From Pawdicures to Blowouts: Beauty Products for Pets and Pet Owners

All pet lovers want the very best for their furry friends, whether it be food, accessories, or grooming products. We pamper them, cuddle them, and spoil them to bits. Some of us even dress in matching outfits when taking our pets out for walks (Hey, to each his own!). But did you know that you can also share some beauty products with your fluffy BFF’s? Here are some of our favorite finds that will also work on your darling furballs!

Brushing your pet’s hair is not only a great bonding experience between the two of you–it is also essential in keeping them healthy. Matted hair is a breeding ground for fungi and insects, and when they take residence in those knots, it can lead to infections. Brushing ensures tangles don’t happen, and also stimulates the skin to allow natural oils to circulate. Regular brushing also keeps your pet looking spiffy and cute as can be!

Suggested product: Tangle Angel Pet Angel Mini (P1,198.00)

Some pets absolutely detest bath time. And during particularly hectic weeks when you don’t have the time to battle it out with a hose or dash to the groomers, dry shampoo can be a convenient way to keep sebum and stink at bay. Of course, regular baths are still the best way to maintain proper pet hygiene, so use dry shampoo only when absolutely necessary. Also, check the labels to make sure the spray does not contain harmful chemicals like ethanol, formaldehyde, and other toxic ingredients.

Suggested product: Dove Refresh+Care Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo (P299.00)

3. Essential Oils

Essential oils can be helpful to dogs when applied topically to treat bruises, skin issues like fungal and bacterial infections, and can also control fleas. Inhalation can also be effective for controlling pain and healing wounds. Some oils also have a similar effect on animals and humans, such as lavender oil for calming and inducing sleepiness. Don’t forget though—pets have a more keen sense of smell than us, so the oils you use must always be properly diluted. For a fuller guide as to which specific essential oils are safe and can address certain issues (specifically with dogs), check out this link: (Essential Oil Profiles)

4. Blowdryer

After bath time, the last thing you want is having your pet dripping all over the carpet and upholstery, right? Just like us humans, dryers come in handy in cutting drying time efficiently. While some pets get terrified of the blowing sensation and roaring sound of a blow dryer, some pets absolutely love it. Just check out those adorable YouTube videos of animals basking in the hot air of a blower. Also, blow drying makes them look extra cute and fluffy, and we all want cute and fluffy, don’t we?

5. Nail Polish

Yes, you can totally give your pet a pawdicure! It looks hilarious and oh so cute. You can even do matching polish! But beware of the Toxic 3 chemicals that must not be in the polish you use for your beloved: dibutyl phthalate (DBP), toluene, and formaldehyde. Also, ensure that the fur ball does not lick the polish while it is still drying.

Suggested product: OPI Nail Polish (P420.00)

*Note: While the above products are all effective, it is always safer to use products specially made for pets. They are extremely special after all.
