With her signature long locks framing her lithe figure and possessing an innate style that transcends trends, Martine Cajucom is undeniably a force to be reckoned with. She’s one of the businesswomen behind hip eyewear brand Sunnies and Instagrammable hot spot, Sunnies Café. And now, she’s the new brand ambassador of hair care brand, TRESemme. The reigning queen of the #nofilter and #iwokeuplikethis look, there is certainly no better person to get when it comes to strutting gorgeous runway ready hair.

Here’s a Calyxta exclusive chat with Martine as she reveals her ultimate hair secrets!

You wear your hair long. Have you tried other hairstyles? What did you like or dislike about the other cuts?

I’ve experimented with all sorts of different hairstyles throughout the years – even a perm and bleached highlights! If I’ve learned anything about experimenting with hairstyles, it’s that never do it immediately after a break up because you’re never totally in the right mindset. And after a decade of trying new things, undyed, long natural hair looks best on me. Whenever I’m itching for a non-committal change, I play with clip-on bangs.

Pinays love long hair. What are your top tips for managing long hair?

A great brush! The splurge on a Mason Pearson one is so worth it and will last throughout the decades. Also, eating a lot of protein makes your hair extra thick. TRESemme Keratin Smooth Treatment Mask also works if you want to give your hair a little bit of pampering. Use once in a while only!

What’s your hair care regimen like?

I wash and lightly condition daily. On the days I skip washing, I do a little cheat by just washing my scalp supplemented with dry shampoo. Blow-drying also makes a huge difference in how your hair falls. My daily essentials include the TRESemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner, TRESemme Dry Shampoo and TRESemme Heat Activating Treatment.

How many times do you visit the salon? What do you usually have done?

Usually once a month. I love a good peppermint scalp massage.

Who cuts your hair?

I am so loyal to my hairstylists. I never ever cheat on them because it normally ends in tears. Locally, Suyen Salazar is amazing at cutting and styling (@styledbysuyen). In Newport Beach, L.A., I go to Easthaven Salon with Mina. She is a visionary, and I’ve recommended her to all my friends who are now loyal to her. And in Melbourne, I go to Melvin at Edwards and Co.

What do you like about your hair?

It’s low-maintenance, and I can say “I woke up like this” and mean it.

What do you not like about your hair and how do you deal with it?

It gets oily and flat at the roots so I make sure dry shampoo is always at my disposal. Excuse the backdoor brag, but sometimes when your hair is really shiny and healthy, it doesn’t hold a curl as well — whipping out the hairspray is a no brainer.
