A K-Fanatic’s Top 8 K-Beauty Picks

Every K-Fan has a different story. As for me, my K-Journey began with a very Tita route. I began with K-Dramas (I watched Full House every afternoon before siesta!), and then K-Pop, and finally, K-Beauty (…let’s not forget K-food!).

The journey has always been an exciting one, and as for skin care finds, I can only be glad to have my favorites readily available through Calyxta (though I honestly wouldn’t mind another trip to Seoul!). Here’s what’s on my list of favorites and must-haves:

Think of it this way—if the average Seoulite swears by this product, all the more should we Manileñas do! Imagine the everyday pollution, and all the sins of the city that need to be unclogged from our pores and washed away. This product makes use of Jeju volcanic clay, which can absorb the sebum (and other impurities!) from our pores. And based on experience, it’s best to use every other weekend!

Like EXO and BTS (fandoms be “shookt” that I used them together in a sentence. I’m an iKonic, btw), this product is yet another cult-favorite and one that gets the most raves from K-Beauty and non-K-Beauty fans alike.

If you’re like me and probably every other girl I know, it takes every ounce of energy to take off makeup at the end of the day. So I’d rather choose to make it fun and exciting by way of this sherbet-like makeup remover. Other than the skin-caring benefits each variant holds, this product is also super easy to use!

I’m not going to lie—this product is a bit high-maintenance. Best put in a mini fridge that houses all your beauty products or simply store them away from direct sunlight or in your bathroom cabinet. Also, if you’re usually showering with warm water, it’s best to keep your serum elsewhere. This is to prevent it from oxidizing, which lessens its potency. Vitamin C works amazing on skin (lightening acne marks and blemishes, etc.), so remember to secure its lid back on (and at once!) tightly after every use.

Twentysomethings, this is for you. I’m sure you’ve heard all about the importance of putting on sunblock even indoors and caring for your skin as early as possible. Well, you might think you don’t need anything anti-aging just yet, but remember—prevention is better than cure. To be honest, I first got myself familiar with Missha’s skin care line as I was looking for serums, ampoules, and essences for my mom, but I eventually fell in love with it myself. I was especially attracted to how power-packed the product seems, and it’s like putting on age-defying elixir on my face!

I’ve tried the YE Effector so far and after using it for only a few weeks, people noticed my skin cleared up and was significantly smoother. While I said thank you, of course, I couldn’t help but ask myself, was my skin that bad before? Or is the product just super effective? I think it’s both!

AHA! A toner that contains AHA and BHA! These are both effective exfoliants that make skin less dull, improve the complexion, and help better absorb other products.

I occasionally have dry skin and peel in the weirdest areas on my face. And whenever that happens, I rely on snails to the rescue! This Benton essence is one of my favorites. When I slather it on my face, I really feel like I’m sleeping with super moisturized skin, and I always wake up with skin that feels fresh and plump like a baby’s!

Other than K-Idols, the other thing Filipinos go crazy for is lightweight sunscreen that won’t melt in the sweltering heat! I’m a fan of this one from Farmstay, because it has an oil-free and lightweight formula that doesn’t dry out skin. It has no fragrance and is safe even for babies to use! As with most K-Sunscreens, it has a little dewy finish that can be offset with a bit of loose powder.
