Eye Opener: Why Monolids Are Beautiful

Tried and tested eye-brightening tips from blogger and June 2017 #CalyxtaGirl, Camille Co, stylist Liz Uy, and model and February 2016 #CalyxtaGirl, Jessica Yang.

Chinitas or women with monolids face several challenges when it comes to makeup. First, how can they apply makeup so that their eyes manage to look brighter or more awake (droopy lids tend to make one look sleepy). Second, which products provide a lift so that one can look more youthful? Mind you, it isn’t about trying to make eyes look rounder or less chinita—it’s about embracing your eye shape yet still managing to pull off a fresh, youthful, and awake vibe. Here, some of our favorite girls share their go-to tips:

“Aside from drawing eyeliner along my upper and lower lash line, I like to give the illusion of brighter eyes by extending my eye liner outwards and always, always applying eyeshadow on the outer corners of my lower lash line.”

Camille’s favorite products to get this look are K-Palette’s Liquid Eyeliner, Marc Jacobs’ Highliner Gel Eye crayon, 3CE’s Eye Shadow Palettes, and Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette.

We suggest: A dupe for Anastasia’s highly acclaimed palette, Pixi’s Mesmerizing Mineral Palette in Sunset Mattes, P650!

“In the past, I would always put false lashes to make my eyes bigger but nowadays, I try to go as clean as possible. I usually do natural brown eye shadow with winged eyeliner. I think the cat eye is perfect for chinita eyes because it creates the illusion of a lift. One thing I never do is put dark eyeliner on my lower waterline—this will only make won’t make your eye size recede.”

Jessica’s go-to products include a contour powder as her eyeshadow, waterproof mascara, and a long-lasting eyeliner for her winged tips. She also makes sure to keep her brows on the thick side. “This does wonders for Chinitas,” she enthuses.

“I keep it really simple by drawing a thin black line close to my lash line. Tight lining really works well because it creates the illusion of depth yet still looks natural.”  I’m partial to liners that have a gel type of consistency because I find that those are easier to wield.”

We suggest: Inglot AMC Gel Eyeliner, P995
