Real Bride: Monica Dacuan-Tabag

What’s the inspiration behind your wedding look? Did you have any hair and makeup pegs?

My wedding was held at the beach, which was why I told my makeup artist that I wanted my makeup to be simple, clean, light, and fresh.

Who designed your wedding gown, and how did you come up with the style? How long did it take to create or find the perfect wedding dress?

It was not hard for me to decide who was going to work on my wedding gown because I knew even before I got married that I wanted her—Mel Orlina—to design it. I wanted a dress that was simple but with subtle details that would make it pop.

What were the preparations you did for your skin prior to the wedding day? Did you go to a skincare center regularly? What kind of services did you have done? Is this something you would recommend to other brides-to-be?

The main struggle of having my wedding in December was that I was literally juggling between work and life. I wasn’t able to do any skin care regimen prior to my wedding. I got a massage the day before though. I also just made sure I slept early the night before the wedding to avoid having eyebags!

What was the best beauty advice you received that helped you prepare for your wedding?

If planning to get a facial before the wedding, have it done two weeks before the wedding. Eat a hefty breakfast because you will barely get the chance to eat during the whole thing. Keep calm.

“Be a Bride-chilla,

not a Bridezilla.”

How did you choose your hair and makeup artist?

Being in advertising, I am lucky enough to work with some awesome makeup artists. One of whom is Ting Duque who did makeup for Heart Evangelista, Sam Pinto, Yassi Pressman, etc. I like her discipline, how meticulous she is and how clean her looks are. The next shoot I had with her after my then-fiancé proposed, I asked her if she could do my makeup during my wedding. As for my hair stylist, I asked Miss Ting if she could recommend a hair stylist who would do my hair. She recommended Bonita Teano who did an awesome job styling my short hair.

What lip color did you choose for the wedding day?

If I remember correctly, Miss Ting chose coral for me. I don’t remember the brand though.

What was in your wedding day makeup kit/pouch?

I didn’t have a makeup kit. Miss Ting just cleaned my makeup a bit before reception.

Did you have your nails done? If so, where? Would you recommend this nail salon to others?

I forgot already where I had my nails done but I made sure to get gel nails just to make sure it won’t chip.

What was your biggest takeaway from your wedding day? Do you have any beauty-related tips you’d like to share to upcoming brides?

As I said, my wedding was held at the beach. But it rained the whole time. I chose my battles and just let go and enjoyed the day. Be a Bride-chilla, not a Bridezilla.
