Real Bride: Kat Ramos-Rodriguez

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Food enthusiast. Wine lover. Marketer from a multinational FMCG company. Yoga practitioner. Make-up addict.

Where was your wedding held and what made you decide to choose the location?

We had our wedding in Angelfields Sanctuary, Silang. Our theme was rustic chic so I was looking for a venue that had the nature feels, but also chic and modern at the same time. I’ve always wanted an outdoor wedding but I didn’t want to risk the chance of rain. Angelfields Aqua en Vino was perfect because it is an indoor pavilion, while the outside area was the perfect outdoor setting where my guests can enjoy both before and after the reception program. The pavilion itself is so beautiful given the interior wooden finish and high ceiling layout – making it look absolutely sophisticated despite the rustic charm.

Who designed your wedding gown, and how did you come up with the style? How long did it take to create or find the perfect wedding dress?

Rosa Clara. My dress was the first dress I tried on among the number of RTW gowns I’ve tried. I wanted something that looked modern and not too common in style so I chose a tube gown with a layered trumpet silhouette that also happens to work well for petites like me.

How did you choose your hair and makeup artist? Did you have any hair and makeup pegs?

Fen Valentino and her team did both my hair and makeup. I discovered her through a good friend who was also her bride. She was particularly good at creating the natural bridal look and she really made her previous brides look gorgeous.  I didn’t have any specific peg but I just told her I wanted to look natural and radiant on my wedding day – which she was able to do perfectly! For my hair, I wanted it a bit loose and not too classic.

What lip color did you choose for the wedding day?

I chose a natural lip color and veered away from bright pink and loud red tones. During reception, since my eye make-up was changed to a smoky finish, I still chose to keep a neutral color for my lips.

What was in your wedding day makeup kit/pouch?

Only a mirror and oil control sheets! My MUA did good preparations on my skin so I trusted that my makeup won’t easily fade out even for a long period of time. I’m also lucky since I don’t have oily skin, this allowed my makeup to really last longer on my skin.

What were the preparations you did for your skin prior to the wedding day? Did you go to a skincare center regularly? What kind of services did you have done? Is this something you would recommend to other brides-to-be?

I don’t really have a high maintenance routine but my skin care must-do is to moisturize every day and night so my skin will always look fresh and healthy. For my wedding though, I got a brightening laser treatment for my face from Luminisce a week before, which also helped smoothen my skin and bring out the glow despite my bad sleeping habits. I’d recommend having that procedure done at least three months before the wedding for optimum results.

I also had my eyebrows fixed at Browhaus, underarm RevLite treatment at Wink, and waxing at The Strip a week before my wedding day.

What was the best beauty advice you received that helped you prepare for your wedding?

“Take care of your skin” – which also means don’t get stressed, don’t sleep late, moisturize your skin, and drink lots of water every day!

How about in terms of fitness? What did you do months before the wedding to stay in shape and make sure your wedding dress fit perfectly? Did you enroll in a gym or fitness center? What was your diet like?

Fortunately, my body type is really slim so I didn’t have to go on diet at all but I also tried going to the gym once in a while to tone my arms and back (since my gown was a tube top).

Did you have your nails done? If so, where? Would you recommend this nail salon to others?

I got a nude gel polish on my nails three days before my wedding at Nail Tropics Rustan’s Alabang. Highly-recommended to those from the south!

“You have to have good skin as base.”

What was your biggest takeaway from your wedding day? Do you have any beauty-related tips you’d like to share to upcoming brides?

On the day itself, do not stress yourself with how your plans are executed and what went wrong. instead, just enjoy the day with your fiancé/husband since it will really fly by fast.

Find the best makeup artist for you and make sure your skin is well taken care of before your wedding day. For beauty treatments – go for those that will brighten and smoothen your skin. Always remember that makeup can only do so much, so you have to have good skin as base.
