The Most Fun Wedding Reception Activity Ideas

Listen up, brides and grooms: a wedding reception is a party. Heck, it will probably be the biggest party you, as a couple, will ever throw. And when you say “party,” we think “fun.” Think of all those long wedding receptions you sat through in the past, drowning your boredom in wine while listening to endless speeches, cheesy music playlists, and corny wedding games. You wouldn’t want to put your guests through that agony, right? The goal is to make this a night to remember for all the right reasons, not just for you as a couple, but for all your loved ones in attendance as well! Here are some of the most fun wedding reception activity ideas to ensure your wedding is a blast:

Team Trivia

Games are a must in every wedding reception. But instead of having those dreaded Single People Games which drive all your single friends to hide inthe bathroom or go on a well-timed smoke break, why not have the entire wedding party participate in a fun but non-embarrassing activity? Divide the guests into teams (ideally, each table is one team) and have your host do a pub style quiz about the bride and groom! Give each table a marker and a white board and ask them the silliest questions about the two of you, (Who asked who out first, which one of you can rap “Super Bass” word for word, etc.) and have them raise their answers after every question! As a prize, the top scoring table gets to line up for the buffet first.

Hey Mr. DJ

Let your wedding guests have a say in the soundtrack to your reception. Music is everything, and you would want your guests to actually enjoy the playlist they have to listen to the entire night. Have a line in your RSVP cards that asks what song they want to dance to during your weddingreception, and give the top choices to the DJ to incorporate in his playlist. You can even phrase it as, “What is the most romantic song you want to dedicate to us?” Your night is going to be filled with a mix of the
cheesiest and sweetest love songs, which will be endlessly entertaining to listen to.

Rockeoke!

And speaking of music, no one ever goes wrong with Rockeoke. It’s the best way to cap off the night, once the traditional wedding program is done—especially when everyone is sufficiently tipsy from all the wedding toasts! If you’re afraid people will be too shy to sing, give the mic to some of your more vocally talented or extremely confident guests to kick off this part of the program. Everyone will follow suit pretty soon.

Advice Cards

Scatter several cards all over each table with questions like, “What should we name our future kids?” or “Should we get a dog, a cat, or a fish?” Or any other suggestions you want from them for your future. You can also put in random fill in the blank stuff like, “Love is…” and the like. It’s a fantastic icebreaker that people seated per table can discuss, especially if they don’t know each other. Also, you and your partner will have a smashing good time reading the cards days after the wedding.

Two Words. Beer Pong.

Always a hit. You can have a beer pong section with tables, cups, ping pong balls, and coolers of beer set up in a specific area in your reception venue. You don’t even have to have anyone facilitate. Groups of people would usually just naturally flock and start playing. It’s a great way to kill time while waiting for the actual program (or the buffet) to start, and a hilarious way to end the night when everyone’s sloshed and incapable of perfect aim.
