Anyone wired to the Internet who’s young or with a hyper-feminine kid with a penchant for blogging and colored contact lenses must have heard of Tricia Gosingtian. Or at least, caught a glimpse of her on the shelf in a bookstore, smiling over her shoulder and promising “150 style essentials for every girl.” And maybe you’ve even seen some semblance of her in a friend, clad in a daily uniform of pastel tops and a pair of wide Emoda pants she saved up for since February. She says it’s Japanese so it’s worth it.

This is the “Tricia Effect”: the phenomenon where people—mostly teens—are flaunting their love for pinks, lace, soft-looking filters, frilly skirts, J-pop, and the Korean girl group SNSD. Whoever said otaku are creepy weirdos who hide behind their computer screens should meet Tricia’s following: a friendly bunch of youngsters filled with ambition and gush about anything Asian unapologetically. It has, after all, now become mainstream. Just check out the noontime show on this major local channel and find your eardrums bombarded with Big Bang’s “Fantastic Baby”.

“I wanted it to become mainstream,” Tricia says, referring to Asian pop culture that she has been following since her teen years. Ten years—that’s how long she has been blogging. A photographer-turned-lifestyle-blogger by circumstance, Tricia has evolved from an oft-liked Lookbook.nu mannequin to a legit digital presence whose net worth and ad rate cards could send you gambling your career for the slightest chance of becoming an online celebrity.

What’s surprising is not her rise to fame; it’s her longevity. In an industry saturated with young blood equipped with teams—writers, photographers, a makeup artist—to document their #OOTDs, staying relevant while aging is the unspoken challenge.  

Now 27, Tricia is 205,000+ followers strong on Instagram (and god knows how much page views her site www.triciagosingtian.com has garnered). She still fangirls over ex-SNSD member Jessica—she scouted the singer’s flats in her latest music video for “Fly”—but this year, she has been engaged to her boyfriend-turned-fiancé of five years, RG Gabunada. Unlike styling herself and posing for her camera, planning marriage doesn’t come easy.  

“I’m panicking now,” Tricia tells me with a nervous laugh. It’s her first time to organize her own life event; compared to maintaining a blog where Delete buttons exist, her wedding is not a simple online affair. “I want to push myself to have the wedding that I want, not the kind of wedding people expect me to have,” she says. “When I got engaged, people were like, ‘Aw! Is it gonna be a blogger wedding? Or a Pinterest wedding?’ At first, I was affected by it because I really don’t know where to start. Eventually, my personal style comes out. I got to realize the style I want and not follow what’s expected from me.”

Tricia insists it’s going to be minimalist. “It’s gonna be ultra-feminine, the kind of style that I’m always sporting,” she teases. “I felt like I wanted to do something different. For a change, I don’t want to follow trends. Now—,” Tricia pauses, “—I want to be the peg.”

She jokes about her statement but in a sense, that’s how it has always been. From her own book to her own clothing collaboration to her ambassador gigs, Tricia has become her own standard to beat. Many bloggers have evolving styles and so does she, but it’s an image—a brand if you will—she maintains particularly well. Her consistency is a matter of uncompromising taste.

“If there’s any trend I want to try, I don’t want to completely change my style for it,” says Tricia. However, she shares that she has joined the straight-eyebrow bandwagon, tints her lips in a gradient manner, and enjoys lazy updos á la Parisians who don’t bother with combs. Although indebted to an Asian beauty routine—she’s a Pond’s girl—she has never had the need to bleach her skin and…well, she has loved the Dolce K shade from Kylie Jenner’s lip kits. (One of us, one of us!)

Despite her tendency to change hair color numerous times a year—her ash brown hair being her signature mane—Tricia is an unmistakable personality who was able to adapt to a changing Internet environment while remaining true to herself. “There are a lot of people who tell me, ‘Ang pabebe mo!’ (‘You’re too cutesy!’),” Tricia shares, “It’s not the worst stuff you can say!”

Of course, magnified blunders tag along her fame. In 2011, the year of Tricia’s Voguegate (she was stoned for saying “The Philippines is not fashion-forward” in a semi-viral video), the blogging industry has the tendency to be a high-school hellhole. “I’m less ignorant now,” Tricia says, fully owning up to the incident, “when you’re young, you make mistakes, you say the darndest things. I’d like to think that with age comes wisdom.”

The Tricia I met on a rainy day last July is definitely not the Atenean photographer I used to stalk on DeviantArt.Com. She still is the same lass with a girlish giggle though, the same one who shies away from two-piece bikinis and swears not to pose nude. Today, she’s a public figure who moms wish their daughters grow up to be.

Now that she’s approaching marriage, she might just attract a new market, and the moms might find new life pegs. “When I got engaged, there’s someone who commented on my blog, “Oh my god, you’re gonna be a mommy blogger! You’ll be posting instant formula milk,’” Tricia says, “Sabi ko, ‘Hindi ba pwedeng married blogger muna? (Can’t I be a married blogger first?) Does it really follow?’”

I can already see what Tricia’s future is going to be like: It’s ridden with new hair hues, coffee, sunny settings in different corners of the globe, and the hashtag #TriciaandRGwillGoPlaces. Sometimes, there will be Japanese makeup and, as always, a variety of the nude lip.

Recently, the fashion designer and style/travel blogger has been making waves online because of her wedding-themed posts and features on magazines and websites. Because Camille is dating Joni Koro, a Finnish businessman who imports and distributes Scandinavian furniture, and because she is building a new home (with TWO sinks in the master’s bath!), her hundreds and thousands of fans are speculating a wedding is in the works. 

Camille says there is no wedding yet but she adds, “We’ve talked about it and we know each other’s expectations. I guess that’s the safest way to answer this question.” So they have talked about it! Camille Co fans, you can now shriek in delight! Here’s more of our chat with Camille for you to swoon over. Do pay attention because she gives her top tips on creating dream weddings! 

What’s your dream wedding like?

An intimate destination wedding with only the closest of our family and friends. 

What kind of gown do you dream of wearing and will you design it?

Yes, I’ll design it but who knows, maybe I’ll have multiple gowns and I’d get to wear other designers’ gowns too. My dream wedding gown varies from time to time though but maybe nothing princess-like. No huge puffy gowns. 

Back in the day, it’s enough that there’s a motif. Now, weddings seem to be like movie productions! There’s a stylist, a shot list, a mood board, a playlist! What do you think of this? Does it excite you or does it overwhelm you?

I think it’s exciting. Planning a wedding can be so stressful and overwhelming so all these lists and mood boards are great tools to help brides feel more prepared. This way nothing gets lost in translation especially when they meet with suppliers. Everyone is on the same page. Most importantly, the brides get a clearer picture of what they really want. 

While you may not be getting married yet, you do have a lot of experience with shoots and styling, plus you’re a fashion designer. What are your Top 3 Tips on how to create a beautiful wedding?

1. Be decisive. Browse through different options and then carefully decide. But once you’ve made the decision, stick to it. 

2. Choose suppliers you can trust 100%. 

3. Surround yourself with the best support system that care about you and your perfect wedding. You need all the help you can get. You can’t do it all by yourself. 

Because of Instagram, guests will want to share photos of weddings on their IG. Give 3 tips for brides to have an IG-worthy wedding. What are your 3 tips for guests?

For brides:

1. Make sure there’s good lighting.

2. Stick to a theme and color palette.

3. Think about the details. Little details make for the perfect IG snapshots.

For guests:

1. Find your light. It’s all about the lighting. 

2. Follow the dress code so you know you’re sure to fit in with the night’s theme. 

3. Download apps like Snapseed and VSCO. 

Finally, when do you want to get married? Where’s your dream honeymoon? What’s Joni’s take on this???

I think you should definitely ask Joni about this because #pressure [laughs]. I still have no idea where I want to spend my honeymoon, though. But definitely a place my future husband and I can discover together. Nothing too stressful. Just a relaxed getaway.

We’re not the only one asking Camille about weddings, though. She’s amused that she’s suddenly an IG-bride, an amusement her beau, Finnish businessman Joni Koro, doesn’t quite share. Whenever media talk about Camille as a bride, Camille jokes that it’s “slowly freaking my boyfriend out.” 

The “Camille’s getting married!” buzz started last year when Camille posted breathtaking photos of herself in Greece wearing wedding gowns from Vera Wang and Monique Lhuillier. All the posts had the hashtag #SantoriniWeddings, which social media pros  took as a marketing campaign. But Camille’s hundreds of thousands of fans online thought she was truly getting married. The fact that Camille wasn’t confirming or denying the rumor only fueled the flames. The speculation even made it to Preview. Camille now laughs about it. “#SantoriniWeddings was actually a collaboration with a wedding company based in Europe. It was their idea actually! I just happily went along with it.” 

If a brand collaboration could make her fans all over the world go crazy with excitement, imagine when Camille finally does walk down the aisle! Since that day is far off into the future, we at Calyxta asked Camille about another and most relevant issue instead: We asked for her tips on how to make one’s wedding go viral in the time of Instagram:

Wedding hashtags are all the rage now. Can you give one tip on hashtag use?

Use a hashtag that is meaningful and easy to remember. Huwag masyadong pilit. 

International model, reality star, and IG celebrity Kendall Jenner said you shouldn’t post on IG often because that makes followers excited for more. But for a wedding, of course the bride and the guests will post a lot. What’s your advice on plotting posts?

I’d probably stretch out my posts when it comes to my future wedding. My advice? Tell a story with your posts. Be wary of the sequence of your posts. Don’t post similar photos consecutively because #feedgoals. 

What are the elements of a viral photo? Or at least a photo that gets a lot of likes?

What I noticed, at least based on my experience, is the dreamier and more fairytale-like the photo, the more chances of it becoming viral. 

You’re a public figure yet many parts of your life are also kept private. So do you want your wedding broadcast on social media? 

I honestly don’t know. I’m sure I’d share it eventually, I just don’t know if I want it in real time or not. Who knows? Maybe I’ll just surprise you.

There’s also one other reason Camille’s following has jumped recently. She has a love life now and her hundreds of thousands of fans are thrilled. Statuesque Camille has found the perfect arm candy—a tall and handsome blond businessman named Joni Koro. 

“I don’t even remember how or when I ‘debuted’ Joni,” Camille says when asked about his debut. She finds the word “debut” amusing, subtly disapproving the implied meaning that she planned her love life and yet she laughs as she adds, “Even before he was revealed to the world, my having a boyfriend is one of my followers’ major concerns. It’s always been one of the most asked questions: ‘Do you have a boyfriend?’ So when they finally started seeing signs of life—I mean, love!—everyone was happy and ecstatic.” 

Camille’s beau is inspiring a lot of interest mostly because he’s hilarious. Together with the boyfriends of Camille’s blogger friends, Joni created an Instagram account called @bloggerjowas poking fun at their lives as “Instagram husbands,” the poor men who take photos of their stylish women, risking life and limb just to take that perfect shot. His humor is not a surprise as Camille herself is a funny girl. Of course she’ll fall for a guy who makes her laugh! Given how cute Joni is, we wonder if it was love at first sight.

“It wasn’t love at first sight,” Camille states firmly. It may be a different story for Joni, however. “We actually met on the plane. He claims I already caught his eye when I was walking around the check-in counters but malay ba natin, baka bola lang yan,” she laughs. “Just kidding. He’s actually very honest so I’d take his word for it!” She laughs again. 

Camille says she and Joni ended up seated beside each other and that he kept talking to her. “He was chatty. He asked for my number but I didn’t really realize it so he was ignored on the first try. When he asked for my number the second time around, in a more straightforward manner this time, he claims it was so obvious I was only giving him my spare phone number. Of course I’d give him my spare number! He could be some creepy guy!” 

Thankfully for both of them, Joni wasn’t a creepy guy. “Joni comes all the way from Finland but he was actually already based here when I met him, which is super good because if he stayed here only for me, I’d probably feel so pressured,” Camille adds with a laugh. “He’s always been inspired by beautiful architecture and design so a few months back, he launched his own furniture business, Nordik Concept. Basically, he imports and distributes high-end and ergonomic office furniture from Scandinavian brands.”

We’re going to insert our happy shock here because this is truly a Calyxta exclusive. While she has amassed a loyal following (as of this writing, they’re 407,000 strong on Instagram alone), Camille rarely talks about her private life. She regales her fans with beautiful photos of dresses and destinations so the few times she does reveal something about real life, it’s always a surprise. For example, it took a while before Camille revealed Joni’s name! “I don’t really like sharing my personal life so much especially when it comes to relationships,” Camille says. “I guess I’ve always been so careful of this because I want to keep my private and public life separate, especially when there are other people involved. I don’t really have rules. I’m not as strict about it anymore but I guess I still choose what type of photos to share. Nothing too intimate.”

She shares her thoughts on love affairs splashed all over social media: “As long as it’s genuine and done tastefully, I’m all for it. But if you’re just doing it for the ’gram and you get a bit too up in people’s faces then that’s a little too much for me.”

Even though you feel a restraint in her posts about Joni, there’s an extra sparkle in her eye and a softness in her smile these days. Camille Co is in love and she can’t hide it anymore. So she’s allowed herself to reveal morsels of her blossoming love story online. Asked what her favorite thing about love in the time of Instagram? “You get to share that love to the world,” Camille replies softly.

Step 2: Deposit some INGLOT HD PERFECT COVERUP FOUNDATION onto your hand, warm it up and then buff it in from the middle going outwards with either a sponge or a brush. Don’t forget to blend it down to your neck. Use a concealer, if needed.

Step 3: To ensure longevity, dust on CHACOTT HD ENRICHING FINISHING POWDER to set the foundation and keep it from sliding off midday.

Step 4: Fill in your eyebrows with light feathery strokes for natural-looking brows. We recommend EYE OF HORUS ULTIMATE BROW DEFINE.

Step 5: Using a brush, apply Poison from URBAN DECAY VICE 2 PALETTE in the center of the lid and lightly brush the color out and blend on lid; avoid brow bone area.

Step 6: Apply a cat eye like a pro—but this time, do it with eyeshadow. Pick a matte black shadow, like Black Satin from the URBAN DECAY NAKED SMOKY PALETTE, and create a triangle shape by connecting the top of your flick down to your lash line (somewhat in line with the outer edge of your iris) with an angled eyeliner brush. Make it longer and at a sharper angle than you usually would. Fill the triangle in, making sure you layer enough product that the color is smooth and saturated.

Step 7: Tightline the upper lash line with GIRLACTIK MECHANICAL EYELINER then finish the eyes off with a couple of coats of PIXI BLACK LACQUER LASH PRIMER JET BLACK.

Step 8: For a flushed and youthful look, apply BOURJOIS DELICE DE POUDRE to the apples of your cheeks. Avoid an aged look by steering clear from applying product on entire cheekbone.
