It is every woman’s beauty goal to find that perfect red lipstick that suits her skin tone perfectly, no matter what the outfit, occasion or season. Red lips look classic and no matter what the trend or season, they will always be chic and will add instant glamour to any look.
While I have been lucky to find different red lipstick shades that I feel best suit me, my quest does not end here. I feel that with emerging research and technology, lipstick formulas, lasting power, color pay-off and even packaging get better and better over time. My newest discovery blends the new with the old and is a family owned cosmetics company. Besame cosmetics, which translates to English as, ‘kiss me’ is a vintage inspired hand-made luxury makeup brand created by artist, cosmetic historian and designer, Gabriela Hernandez.
She was amused with her grandmother’s cosmetics and the glamour of the beauty rituals in the past. Being frustrated at not being able to find the colors and feel of beauty products from back then, she decided to develop her own. She frequently visited vintage and thrift shops for inspiration for packaging and colors of cosmetics from before. At home, she hand-produced her own cosmetics line with her husband and daughter.
Besame cosmetics has a cult following of beauty addicts who appreciate the glamour that comes from luxury vintage beauty products. They recreate modern reproductions of classic luxury makeup from the 1920’s- 1950’s. Their lipstick, Red Hot Red, boasts great pigmentation with just one swipe, long wearing power and the exact shade of red they claim Marilyn Monroe herself, the ultimate bombshell, used to wear.
Pros:
- The flat edge design of the bullet made it easy for me to line my lips first then just fill them in.
- What caught my eye first, of course, was the intricate packaging. The lipstick bullet comes in a mirrored gold package and in its own red velvet pouch to protect the packaging from scratches.
- I was drinking throughout the day and had dinner, without needing to retouch. I also didn’t notice the lipstick staining my teeth or worse, feathering or bleeding throughout the day. There was a lot of color transfer onto tissues and my drinking glasses, but the pigment stayed true to color and pigmented, leaving a bright red stain behind which didn’t really need further retouching or reapplication.
- Feels nice on the lips and after a whole day of wearing it out I did not bleed despite not using a lip liner. It did not feather despite not using a lip primer.
- The elegant and luxurious presentation and packaging of this lipstick made it exciting to apply and take around with me.
Cons:
- It’s a bit small at 3.5 grams, but it took just one quick swipe across my lips to get the perfect color payoff. A little does go a long way.
This would be perfect if you wear this the whole day or at an event where you will be doing a lot of talking, drinking and/or smooching. I am never afraid of bright and strong reds on my lips. As a matter of fact, I never feel complete without a bright lipstick swiped across my lips. All in all I love the perfect pigmentation of this lipstick and I would consider wearing it without fear of drying at all. Definitely this is my new staple red lipstick for my everyday beauty bag.
