DIY Pedicure: Basic

By: Ixi Castillo

Have you ever found yourself in a predicament because you’re scheduled to hit the beach or you need to don a pair of open toe pumps but just can’t fit going to the salon for a pedicure? Fret no more, here’s a guide on how you can give yourself a last minute pedicure:

1. Snip your nails with clippers and shape them with a nail file.

2. With a buffing block, smooth each nail and remove yellow stains. You can also use the rougher side to soften the skin at the tips of your toes. Use the smooth side to give your nails a nice shine.

3. Soak your feet in a tub of warm water. When the skin has softened, use a foot scrub to exfoliate dead cells.

4. Rinse and pat dry.

5. Soften your cuticles with oil and push them back with an orangewood stick.

6. Reach for a vitamin-rich moisturizer and massage this onto your nails (removing the cuticle debris at the bottom of the nail) and the entire foot.

7. You may stop here or continue by preparing your nails for polish. Make sure to use polish remover first to eliminate any oil left from the moisturizer. This will allow the nail polish to go on smoothly.

8. Paint away!
